Jeremy and I love our essential oils, we are always excited to learn new ways to use our oils and make fun DIY recipes. Being avid gardeners we get a lot of exposure to the sunshine during this time of year. Its important to protect the skin from harsh UV lighting but today our department store sun screens are full of toxic chemicals that are poisoning our bodies. Doctor Oz wrote an article on the subject and said "The way in which these chemicals can interact with hormone systems could plausibly increase the risk of various cancers as well as other endocrine disorders.” Its important that we know and understand the severity of some of the products in stores that honestly should not even be allowed to be sold. Especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or rubbing this toxic stuff onto kiddos, or yourself. So let’s talk about this amazing DIY natural solution to toxic sunscreen and how effective it is!
Coconut oil- has a naturally occurring SPF factor around SPF 5. Carrot seed oil has about a SPF factor of 30-40! Lavender oil is a great bug repellant and also helps keep the skin moist. The astringent properties of Frankincense make it an excellent choice for topical uses. Anti-aging products use the oil for the skin benefits. You can also combine Zinc oxide to this recipe (Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are rocks that are ground down to a fine consistency. They do a great job at blocking both UVA and UVB light). This recipe is estimated to be about SPF 35 (actually, it's much higher but I like to err on the safe/low side.)
How much should you use? Spray the whole body (or skin being exposed to sun) tap gently into the skin and reapply it every 2 hours or so.
2oz spray bottle
20 drops YLEO Carrot Seed oil
5 drops YLEO Lavender
5 drops YLEO Frankincense
2 tsp fractionated coconut oil
2 tsp almond oil
2sp vitamin e oil
Fill the rest with distilled water
Share this recipe with friends and family for a healthy and toxic-free lifestyle!
